US Socialite Receives 15-year To Life Jail Term For Fatal Hit-and-run Involving Brothers

US Socialite Receives 15-year To Life Jail Term For Fatal Hit-and-run Involving Brothers

Rebecca Grossman insisted she did not see the two young boys on the night of the crash

(Ovichnews U.S.A.) - Rebecca Grossman, a prominent socialite, has been sentenced to a minimum of 15 years in prison for her involvement in a hit-and-run accident that resulted in the tragic deaths of two young brothers. The incident occurred in 2020 when Mark and Jacob Iskander, aged 11 and eight, were struck and killed while crossing a road in Westlake Village, California with their family.

Grossman, who co-founded the Grossman Burn Foundation, was found guilty by a Los Angeles jury in February on charges that included second-degree murder. At her sentencing, the 60-year-old expressed remorse to the family, maintaining that she did not see the boys on the night of the crash. During the trial, Grossman's defense team argued that the initial impact was caused by another vehicle driven by Scott Erickson, a former LA Dodgers baseball player, and that Grossman was driving behind it. Prosecutors dismissed this claim as a "ridiculous theory" and alleged that Grossman was traveling nearly twice the speed limit. The court also heard that both Grossman and Erickson had consumed cocktails earlier in the day. Grossman was ultimately convicted of two counts of second-degree murder, vehicular manslaughter, and hit-and-run driving.

US Socialite Receives 15-year To Life Jail Term For Fatal Hit-and-run Involving Brothers

The boys' mother, Nancy Iskander, addressed court on Monday

Despite the prosecution's plea for a more severe sentence of 34 years to life, the judge opted for the minimum term, noting that Grossman was not the "monster" portrayed by the prosecution. Throughout the proceedings, Grossman showed emotion, stating that she would have chosen to "drive into a brick wall" rather than harm the young boys. During the sentencing, it emerged that Grossman had not reached out to the victims' parents, a move disputed by Nancy Iskander, the boys' mother. Iskander recounted seeing Grossman at the hospital's emergency room on the night of the accident and emphasized that Grossman had made eye contact with her. "You knew they were dying," Iskander asserted. Rebecca Grossman, in partnership with her husband Peter Grossman, co-founded the Grossman Burn Foundation, dedicated to providing assistance to burn victims worldwide.
